Jerome Simpson, wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, was charged with trafficking marijuana in excess of eight ounces. Simpson pled not guilty to the charge, which is a felony punishable by one to five years in prison.
Simpson entered the plea on Monday in which a grand jury indicted him on one count of marijuana trafficking in excess of 8 ounces on Jan. 19.
Apparently, Simpson has been under investigation since September when agents from California tracked a package shipped to his northern Kentucky home. They said it contained 2 1/2 pounds of marijuana. Authorities said a search of Simpson’s home also turned up 6 more pounds of marijuana, smoking pipes and scales.
Legalizing marijuana has been a hot debated issue in the recent years. Marijuana is legal with some restrictions in parts of the United States and fully legal in other parts of the world.
