Marijuana Sales Trending Down In Colorado

marijuana sales in colorado

Recreational marijuana sales have dropped for two consecutive months – for the first time since they became legal in Colorado.

In fact, both medical and recreational sales have fallen significantly since peaking in August.

Medical and recreational combined for $80 million in sales in October, according to the latest numbers from the state. That’s a pretty strong month. Pot purchases have topped $80 million only five times in the last two years.

But customers have pulled back in a big way the last two months, with sales down 20 percent.

Some marijuana business owners blame waning tourism in Denver as the weather gets cold. And tourists are a big part of the business. Others theorized that many people who grow their own pot outside, harvest it around September and October, lessening demand from dispensaries.
